Pro-Keds Reviews
The purchase of this shoe was a throwback to me. I had a pair years ago in my teens. I decided to treat myself to another pair. This purchase brought back memories of how great these sneakers feel and wear. Awesome!
I should have bought these from Zappos. At least I could have returned them and got much better shoes! Looks-wise, they are better than Chuck Taylors - almost like Jack Purcells minus the "smile" on the toe cap. The laces are better than Chuck Taylor's garbage laces. Besides that, everything else is terrible. The shoes have absolutely zero support of any kind! By the end of the first day wearing these shoes, I felt like i had pulled muscles in both legs. I spent the next two days in excruciating pain from just wearing these shoes for one full day! And it also did not help that the insole material looks and smells like Band-Aids. I never thought that I would find shoes that were even cheaper made than the current Chuck Taylor, but I have and it is the royal low. If you are looking for similar style shoes get the Converse Jack Purcell. They come with a removable insole that is very comfortable. They fit true to size (unlike Chuck Taylors) and Zappos always has them in stock.
So far these have been fantastic sneakers. The color is a strong blue, and the racing stripe on the side of each shoe is a nice touch. The canvas is thicker and much more substantial than similar shoes, that makes these a bit better for wearing in cooler temperatures. You will not want these during a blizzard, but they will be just fine for a chilly fall evening. Sizing is true to size, I wear an 8 normally and an 8 in these feels great. And unlike most canvas sneakers, these have a fully removable padded insole. It is surprisingly comfortable, but the insole is not arched. Considering that these are cheaper than the two nearest competitors (Converse Ox and Vans Authentic) and the addition of the removable insole, the Pro-Keds CVO sneakers are a great choice for those looking for casual and subtly designed shoes.
Great shoes! If you like "old school" styles, these will not disappoint. Just like the originals. These are strictly casual models...with no padding or modern day updates. Not for sports use.
The first pair had issues, but Zappos took care of me and sent a second. They look great - almost nautical. Narrower than I thought, however. Still they now fit well.
Great service. Received them earlier than expected. Retro for me being in my 40's . I also bought low top canvas Pro Keds from Zappos. Blue. Very comfortable.
The white on white Pro-Keds Royal Lo are tied for the best looking shoes along with the canvas Chuck Taylor All-Star Converse Lo shoes. The Pro Keds look fantastic as dressy sneakers or just chilling out with the guys. They have no arch support but that can be remedied by placing an arch support insole in them. To me they feel and look great. I have been looking for these for quite a long time and Zappos finally got them. Thank you, Zappos!
These are pretty good. I typically wear Vans and my only issue with these is they run narrow. I love that the insole can be removed to clean the shoe and it looks great all around. I did notice that the seaming broke where the shoe flexes pretty earlier on but the rest of the shoe is holding up fine.
This sneaker was my favorite back in the '70s and now that I have a pair of Royal Lo white, I have to get every color! Coolest sneaker ever!
You want to be stylin' this summer? You want to stay fresh and get looks? Well, then why didn't you buy these yet?! The Pro-Keds Royal are the hands down classiest, sexiest and most stylish sneakers you'll wear...ever. Throw on a fresh pair of fitted crew shorts and a new T, along with the Pro-Keds Royal, and there you have it! You'll be the dopest kid in the whole school.
Why get Converse when you can get Pro-Keds? Much better quality/support. The shoe is clean and durable, and I'd get it in more colors if I didn't have all of them already!
Great casual shoe. Handsome and versatile. Fits true to size and goes really well with jeans. Super comfortable to wear around the city.
What happen to this brand? I bought many pairs over the last 10 years or so and now the styles just aren't what they used to be. Why doesn't this classic style come in leather or faux-leather? It's only offered in canvas now. And the quality has really gone down the tubes the seems inside did some damage to my foot, there is no support and the sizing seems off too. I'm going to buy some classic shell-toe Adidas instead.
Of all the retro designs, this is probably one of the best. Shopping at Zappos making it even better!
Solid shoe, nothing spectacular. The laces feel somewhat cheap, and the shoe fits loose on the foot after a while. But they look fine and good for general purposes.
Really like the style but they're a little cheap looking. Very uncomfortable around the ankle area. Zappos is awesome though.
These look pretty cool and are reasonably lightweight and flexible (I'm a woman and seldom buy men's styles). Removable innersole allows use of orthotics. High top is padded and comfortable. Nice sneaker.
I bought these because of their style and good looks. I also hoped for a shoe that would be comfortable to wear in urban environments, specifically on days I teach, when I walk about three miles and am on my feet for about seven hours at a time. After wearing them one such day, I replaced their inner soles with Spenco cross-trainer insoles, and that did the trick. I like the shoe: it's snug (not tight), stylish (even my 21-year-old students commented favorably), and the dark gray color (not really black) appeals to me.
I felt like this sneaker looks much better in person than it does in the picture. I love the material it is made out of and it is very comfortable almost like wearing a slipper. The only critique I have is in regard to the white rubber bottom part of the shoe. It gets dirty pretty easily and it took me a while to get some of the dirt off but other than that is a great shoe for a great and accurate price.

PRO-Keds began in 1949 as a brand aimed at sports and athletic performance. Based on quality, durability and a solid reputation, PRO-Keds became one of the leading names in athletic footwear.
The first PRO-Keds shoe, originally released as the Royal Tread, was the Royal, a classic canvas basketball shoe in high and low tops featuring an identifying red and blue power stripe adjacent to the toe. The Royal was worn and endorsed by the then Minneapolis Lakers, the first-ever NBA® champions, who won five consecutive titles in PRO-Keds, led by the great George Mikan.
