These are great boots. Extremely light weight and breathable. The only reason I couldn't give comfort a full 5 stars is because the toe box narrows a little quicker than what is comfortable for me on the outside of my foot; so, basically, my little toe was getting a little squashed every time I took a step. Scarpa uses many different sizing Lasts for their boots so you may want to check their web site to see which Last is right for you. Unfortunately, sometimes the info on the product doesn't tell you which Last the boot uses or what that means when it comes to sizing. Their BX Last is the one that fits the majority of peoples feet, according to their site, which is used in the Kailash. So, if you have slightly wide or need space in the toe box just keep that in mind. As one person mentioned, you will feel uneven terrain through the outsole pressing up into your foot but its not bad for moderately small debris; so, I would not consider this to be a medium to heavy pack or trail boot but more of a very comfy light duty off roader for day hikes and light packing or all round basic outdoor use. The tongue is sufficiently padded and the collar flexes really easily so that there is virtually no break in time needed. the heel locks in very well which means that you will not be needing to over tighten the laces to prevent heel slip. As long as you understand that these boots are light duty and the shape fits your foot well I don't see how you could go wrong with these boots. Zappos is truly the best of the best! Thanks Zappos for doing such a great job and making life a little bit nicer and enjoyable through superior service.

5 Star shoes. I am currently wearing these on a trip in Vietnam, and they are very sturdy and comfortable. I have walked extensively in them for 2 weeks and all is great. Breathability is really good. At the end of the day I am literally melting from the humidity. I have been sweating more than a Belfast valet in the 1980s, but my feet have not been soaking wet so far. My feet have hurt less wearing these and walking miles, than after a normal day at work in my work shoes. They also look great, that is not an opinion, but a fact. I have received 2 compliments already from complete strangers. That never happens to me regarding my shoes. I get compliments all the time on how good looking I am, but never my shoes.

My third pair! I love the full toe and comfortable interior of this shoe. I am a standard width foot but hike on trails daily with my dogs and this shoe laces to conform to my own foot and has decent traction on rocks. Ready to wear out of the box no need for me to break them in. Yippeee!

Overall, a great shoe. Sizing is good for length but seems to run narrow in the fit. I wore them for a week straight walking 30-40K steps a day and my feet never felt better. Great support. The only problem was on BOTH shoes, the light colored mesh cushioning at the same exact spot on the inside of both ankles started to fray and wear out after just two weeks of wear. That was disappointing. I got a number of compliments and inquiries and will probably buy another pair when I wear these out!

The full lace up design is perfect for those who want a custom fit. 7 to 10 mile hikes navigate well in these shoes. They stay put and maintain a good feel, no need for breaking in. Not a very heavy heal pad, some could get heal bruising if you are accustomed to a heavy foot fall.

Great boot but no size 8 it goes from a 7(39) to 8 1/2(40) which is odd. The size 40 was too big, usually fits me perfectly in the Scarpa's, the size 39 too tight, I'm bummed because I love Scarpa's and wanted this boot. I use them year round, snow and all! My others are a 3yr old pair of Mistral that I just love but have worn out. Zappos has the best customer service I have ever encountered, although JCPenny is wonderful too. I wonder were they get their great staff!

I've had this shoe for a year and love it. It needed no break-in. Comfortable for walking/hiking in rocky, dusty, muddy terrain and on city streets. Still in great shape after a year of active use.

I have a pair of Epics that are on their way out so I decided to replace them with these. The Crux isn't the trail shoe that the Epics were but for every day kicking around, these shoes are awesome. They are comfortable, look great, and wear well.

I have had two pair of these which are now six years old. So glad I have finally found a web site that I can order more of these great shoes from. The first two pair I ordered from the Herrington catalog but they no longer carry this brand. They give a great fit partly due to the fact that the shoes laces almost from the toe up so you are certain to get a fit that is correct for your foot. I have the shoe in black and brown but want to get it in all colors. I might even order the red women's shoe just so I can have it in red since I have a very small foot. I always receive positive comments from people when I wear these. It is nice to have a brand that you don't see everyone wearing.

I just love Scarpa's with their wide toe box, as I have a bunion and hammer toes, I have two other pairs. I usually take a 40 (8 1/2) but this pair seems to have an extra 1/2+ inch in the toe. Otherwise the boot seems comfortable and looks great, going to try a size 8.

These shoes look fantastic. I almost don't want to wear them outside and mess them up, but will inevitably abuse the crap out of them, as I have done my previous four pairs of Scarpas. I wear a 47 in Scarpa hiking boots (i.e. the Kailash) and I need a 46.5 (or even a 46?) in the Tech Ascent for them to fit like an approach shoe. The last is wider than the Kailash last. I give them 4 stars overall, only because they could use a rubber rand all the way around to protect the leather from scree. But that is me being picky. These are great shoes.

So disappointed in this rather expensive shoe. I bought it for hiking, but it is not stable enough for 4,000 footers, so I decided to wear them for teaching, where I am standing for 2 hours straight. They are very comfortable for this purpose; however, the inner side of the shoe is starting to tear. There is now a small hole in both shoes in the same spot. I cannot believe it since I only wear the shoes twice a week and have not had them for that long. I have never purchased a shoe this expensive before, so I expect it to last, but it has not. I need to contact the company and let them know. So bummed.

Great shoe, a little stiff to start but gets comfortable pretty quickly. Very high quality construction. Insole is terrible, replace it immediately!

Look cool. Pretty comfortable. May wear down on the sole pretty quickly. But altogether still awesome.

After spending 20+ years in Special Forces and understanding the importance of quality boots, I purchased these boots for hiking in Europe. These were true to size and good for 20 miles out of the box with good socks. Love them and will buy again if they or like item of equal quality are available!

I thought about buying this for while but was worried they were too much like a sneaker, not beef-y enough like a boot. I'm so sorry I waited so long to get them. These shoes are -comfortable: I wore them basically out of the box on a 2 week vacation that included hiking lots of miles. No breaking in required. -supportive: I wore them every day for 2 weeks hiking over rough mountain terrain. -sticky: they're great for scrambling and approaches.

I usually wear a 9.5 but found the 10 more comfortable. I picked these up for use as my main walking shoe here in Burlington, Vermont. I use them everyday and have walked many hundreds of miles in them as part of my life-intervention weight loss crusade. They are also great shoes for riding my mountain bike. Very supportive and sturdy. I get lots of compliments for them and have had two people try to get me to sell them!

These are a great light-weight alternative to a full-size (weight) hiking boot. It is only a few oz heavier than most of the beefy trail-runners on the market. After heavy rain the outside, uppers dries quickly from simply wearing in dry weather. The Gore-Tex kept my feet dry in any mud I trudge through but I highly recommend treating with a water-proofing before first use on entire upper (tongue and ankle). The laces tie well and though seem a little long but are sufficient length not to lose through the eyelets when loosening for removal. The lacing does a great job of keeping your heel in the back of the boot with the arch being snug and the heel being locked in place. The treads grip well on rock faces when smearing and wear very slowly.

These are my first pair of Scarpas. First impressions...great fitting and very comfortable shoe right out of the box. Seems to be of high-quality. Unless these things fall apart way to quickly I'd be looking for another pair (same or similar Scarpas) in a couple years. I highly recommend!

A great fit and very stable. Lateral movement is fine and they grip nicely. A bit of a low rider in the opening for lack of a better term but tongue and upper live happily together. Mid sole is pretty good and is in my opinion optimum in height and construction for trails & such. Mudding? It would be difficult for them to be pulled off by thick, schtanky single track mud. I always replace thin factory insoles with my fave gel ones and with the Scarpa Sparks it's just another day in heaven! Cheers Zappos!

Love these shoes. Love Scarpa because I have a narrow heel and it's the only brand that fits securely. They are solid shoes and better than regular trainers, good for walks aswell as running around town which makes for an ideal all-round travel shoe and keeps you feeling sure-footed. To the customer who had problems with the tongue slipping down, you can lace through the tongue, not something I have done or needed to do. I am in the UK and came across this store because I was looking for this shoe as a second pair and wanted them in red, I already own them in purple.
