These shoes look fantastic. I almost don't want to wear them outside and mess them up, but will inevitably abuse the crap out of them, as I have done my previous four pairs of Scarpas. I wear a 47 in Scarpa hiking boots (i.e. the Kailash) and I need a 46.5 (or even a 46?) in the Tech Ascent for them to fit like an approach shoe. The last is wider than the Kailash last. I give them 4 stars overall, only because they could use a rubber rand all the way around to protect the leather from scree. But that is me being picky. These are great shoes.

So disappointed in this rather expensive shoe. I bought it for hiking, but it is not stable enough for 4,000 footers, so I decided to wear them for teaching, where I am standing for 2 hours straight. They are very comfortable for this purpose; however, the inner side of the shoe is starting to tear. There is now a small hole in both shoes in the same spot. I cannot believe it since I only wear the shoes twice a week and have not had them for that long. I have never purchased a shoe this expensive before, so I expect it to last, but it has not. I need to contact the company and let them know. So bummed.

Great shoe, a little stiff to start but gets comfortable pretty quickly. Very high quality construction. Insole is terrible, replace it immediately!

Look cool. Pretty comfortable. May wear down on the sole pretty quickly. But altogether still awesome.

After spending 20+ years in Special Forces and understanding the importance of quality boots, I purchased these boots for hiking in Europe. These were true to size and good for 20 miles out of the box with good socks. Love them and will buy again if they or like item of equal quality are available!

I thought about buying this for while but was worried they were too much like a sneaker, not beef-y enough like a boot. I'm so sorry I waited so long to get them. These shoes are -comfortable: I wore them basically out of the box on a 2 week vacation that included hiking lots of miles. No breaking in required. -supportive: I wore them every day for 2 weeks hiking over rough mountain terrain. -sticky: they're great for scrambling and approaches.

I usually wear a 9.5 but found the 10 more comfortable. I picked these up for use as my main walking shoe here in Burlington, Vermont. I use them everyday and have walked many hundreds of miles in them as part of my life-intervention weight loss crusade. They are also great shoes for riding my mountain bike. Very supportive and sturdy. I get lots of compliments for them and have had two people try to get me to sell them!

These are a great light-weight alternative to a full-size (weight) hiking boot. It is only a few oz heavier than most of the beefy trail-runners on the market. After heavy rain the outside, uppers dries quickly from simply wearing in dry weather. The Gore-Tex kept my feet dry in any mud I trudge through but I highly recommend treating with a water-proofing before first use on entire upper (tongue and ankle). The laces tie well and though seem a little long but are sufficient length not to lose through the eyelets when loosening for removal. The lacing does a great job of keeping your heel in the back of the boot with the arch being snug and the heel being locked in place. The treads grip well on rock faces when smearing and wear very slowly.

These are my first pair of Scarpas. First impressions...great fitting and very comfortable shoe right out of the box. Seems to be of high-quality. Unless these things fall apart way to quickly I'd be looking for another pair (same or similar Scarpas) in a couple years. I highly recommend!

A great fit and very stable. Lateral movement is fine and they grip nicely. A bit of a low rider in the opening for lack of a better term but tongue and upper live happily together. Mid sole is pretty good and is in my opinion optimum in height and construction for trails & such. Mudding? It would be difficult for them to be pulled off by thick, schtanky single track mud. I always replace thin factory insoles with my fave gel ones and with the Scarpa Sparks it's just another day in heaven! Cheers Zappos!

Love these shoes. Love Scarpa because I have a narrow heel and it's the only brand that fits securely. They are solid shoes and better than regular trainers, good for walks aswell as running around town which makes for an ideal all-round travel shoe and keeps you feeling sure-footed. To the customer who had problems with the tongue slipping down, you can lace through the tongue, not something I have done or needed to do. I am in the UK and came across this store because I was looking for this shoe as a second pair and wanted them in red, I already own them in purple.

Really enjoying these shoes. They are less flex-y than a running shoe but more flex-y than a hiking boot, which is just what I was looking for. They are substantial enough for hiking with a light pack but are less bulky and feel (and look) lighter and more streamlined than a typical hiking shoe. They are also very comfortable for walking around town, walking the dog, etc. The mesh on the sides keep them cooler in the summer than a similar pair of leather Scarpas I have, but the leather over the toes keeps them from filling up with dust from the trail. I wear an 8 or 8.5, and the Euro 40 in this shoe fits me great. They have a low-profile tread -- I'll be interested to see how this holds up over time.

These are my new favorite shoes! I had to order half a size smaller and the fit is perfect. I wear 9½ normally but 9 was perfect!

Shoe developed a hole in the toe, right above the rubber protector after about 50 miles of use. I returned and Scarpa warrantied them. However, with no explanation as to why they failed and no visual improvement on the shoe. I would not buy these again. For an approach shoe, they are no durable.

Got these as a warranty replacement when the side of my Scarpa Crux developed a hole in the toe near the protector. These are comfortable low-rise hikers. Good traction for New England terrain.

Caution about Scarpa sizing...they run a bit small in length. I have purchased several Scarpa shoes and the problem runs throughout their line. I am a size: 10 but to get a comfortable fit I buy size 43.5 = 10.3 in all their shoes otherwise they don't fit right. The shoe is shaped well and is comfortable to wear. It is by no means a heavy-duty hiker but it's lightweight and the cushioning is decent without having to add additional innersoles as I do with almost all other shoes including expensive designer brands. Scarpas tend to be a bit conservative in styling focusing more on comfort than on attention-getting. But you must heed my caution on the sizing for a true fit.

I absolutely love these shoes! I ordered them in January of 2013. I wear them nearly every day in the desert around Tucson and they barely show wear (as of August 2014). There is one slight puncture in the sidewall fabric... but that was from a pretty harsh interaction with a cactus. I usually have difficult feet to fit - large size (13/14), narrow width and low volume. These fit like a glove! In fact, I have already added another pair to my next order since I do not want to be without them. Their styling is spot-on, too. The colors are not super loud (but still interesting) and the greys blend nicely. As for insole I did to these what I generally do to most shoes which is remove the factory-provided insole and add Superfeet insoles for added support/comfort. I highly recommend these shoes.

I have worn these on casual hikes thus far, nothing technical (no scrambling, etc). These are great shoes. Excellent fit and support and good traction. It's all an approach shoe is supposed to be. I found the regular Zen too narrow, especially in the toe box, these are sized much better. The color might be a little too loud for causal wear but once they get dirty, they'll be fine!

I just ordered a second pair of these today. I purchased the first pair about a month ago. They are very comfortable and take care of a foot issue that I have on one foot. I like the stiffer Vibram sole which gives more support than other casual "tennis" I've had. I wish there were more colors to select from. Then I could be color coordinated 24/7.

I hiked through the Alps with these shoes, and they provided the relatively lightweight support I needed for such an endeavour. I also wore then in the cities. My feet became a little warm on the hotter days, but for the most part, these shoes proved their versatility and quality. I'm very happy with my purchase.

These are nice looking shoes, and would fit most people well. I have specific arch requirements, and these shoes, though having good support throughout, did not have any pronounced arch, and so I returned them rather than buying an insert.
