I ordered 3 pair of these shoes to get the right fit. I'm a 12 in tennis shoes. I tried an 11 and 11.5 Med and an 11 wide. Ultimately the 11 fit right. A little snug on the sides which is why I tried a wide, but the wide was too loose. They look slick and are breaking in nicely. I put some flat laces on them. I haven't tried Obenaufs yet because I don't want to darken the shoes.

Gents, I tried...I really tried; however, these boots are very uncomfortable. I love the look of these boots and there is no doubt they would have been exceptionally durable. I've worn them for about a month and a half and they still feel like there are lumps in the soles. I can wear them for about an hour and my feet will hurt for the hour after I take them off. I have owned other pairs of Red Wing boots for years and I'm a big fan, but these are terrible. I'm very disappointed...and out the money. Buyer beware.

Best boots ever made! 30 minutes into a new pair they felt like I'd owned em for years. Worth every penny.

I love these boots. I have been a doc martens user for over twenty years and would have been their strongest advocate. unfortunately, the quality of docM's has dropped off dramatically. My last pair was excruciating so I moved onto redwing. These boots are comfortable and the break in was a piece of cake. I wear the boots at work as a physician and they look appropriately professional. I will be buying more redwing products!

These are fantastic boots. They require a little break but well worth it. My last Red Wings lasted 20 years. Great service and fast! I would recommend to anyone. I have very wide feet and was leery but I read other reviews about them loosening up and took a chance. I am very glad that I did.

Took about a week of wearing them every day to break in. After that truly amazing boots I wear them every where even walking around downtown for hours. Definitely worth the price I do wear a size 10 in Frye boots. But got these in a size 9.5 and they fit perfect.

This is a very sturdily built boot suitable for less-than-ideal weather or relatively standard work in an engineering shop. Great as a part of a vintage workwear inspired outfit. Theoretically usable for hiking, motorcycles, and the like. Very satisfied.

It's a gift and my nephew really like them a lot. This one run large and you need to order 1/2 size smaller which I did and it fit him perfectly. Thanks to all the review about this tip. Great shoes.

I had done my research on these boots, however I am always skeptical about trying something new. The reviews were correct, there is an extended, but not painful, break in period. These boots become custom fit boots after a few weeks. The look is outstanding and the quality of work is the best I have ever seen. I highly recommend these for anybody looking for a non-safety workbook or a great looking casual boot.

These original chukkas are boss. They look even better on your feet. I bought mine from an actual red wings store so if you have that option I would head over. They have a high tech foot sizing mechanism that nails your size down. The man said they should feel like a "firm handshake," because the boots stretch. After and hour of wearing around my living room they already feel much more comfy than right out of the box so I won't return them for a wide size. 4 stars for comfort (haven't broke them in yet), half size smaller than my athletic shoe size is good, narrower than I'm used to but apparently they stretch. Style is worth every penny of that price tag.

Second pair in 9 years. Wore them almost every day. I'm an office worker but avid DIY'er so while they may not hold up as long in full time construction work, I did give them a run over the years. Probably would have lasted longer if I hadn't treated them so badly the past couple years. This is case by case, but consider going down a half size from regular shoes. If they're a bit tight, that goes away after about a week or two. Then they're wonderful.

These boots are great. They are solid, sturdy, and well made. I am a woman with small, wide feet and I was looking for a pair of Engineer boots that would last me forever. I wanted a boot to wear with jeans to college every day. These are the perfect fit. They have a classic motorcycle look that I love. Because of my small feet, normally a women's 8 for boots, I ordered a 6 but they were too large so I exchanged them for a 5. The 5's fit well with a little room to spare in the toes, but it is tight over the top of my foot. I know that the boots will shape to my foot after a while wearing them but I help it along my shoving some socks inside when I am not wearing them. The color is great too. I nice rich rust/brown that is perfect with jeans. The sole I great too, they show absolutely no wear what so ever after about a month of waking around campus on pavement and concrete. I would order these boots again but I don't expect I will have to.

I have been wearing these since I received them two days ago, in an effort to "break them in". I've walked over 10 miles in them since then. I can say with honesty that they are a fantastic boot, built to be exceptionally waterproof and have fantastic traction...that was not an exaggeration. I'm normally a 10.5 in boots, and I ordered a 10.5; The sizing seems to be pretty good, but Red wing does have a rather eclectic cut for their boots. The majority of the boot feels perfectly snug with thick socks on, but they seem really long, and I seem to have a lot more room in the toe than I am used to. They don't feel lose though. As for breaking them in...honestly, I've broken in tougher slippers. I come from Dr Martens land...breaking these things in feels like what Docs start to feel like after a few months of breaking them in. I've got a few blisters, but I am gladly underwhelmed with the difficulty it's taking so far to break them in, especially after all of the red wing owners I've talked to have made it sound like murder. If you want winter boots that look awesome, take a good amount of punishment, give you rock-solid footing, all while feeling pretty comfortable, I highly recommend these. Yes, they are quite expensive, but this is one case where I can assure you you get what you pay for. Watch out for the red wool interior, it may very well stain some of your socks. Mine were stained from the merino wool lining on the pair of seal brown Olukai Mauna Kea's I own, so I didn't mind (another fantastic boot by the way, but maybe stick to the leather kind instead of the cowhide suede).

Wow...Red Wing Boots are amazing! The quality boots they produce are somewhat of a past time. I would pay $350 for these boots. They are worth it. I agree with all the comments about the size. I usually wear a 10 1/2 so I bought a 10 and they fit like a glove. Outstanding for motorcycle riding as well!

I really wanted to like these boots. They look very nice but they are uncomfortable to the point that wearing them a few days in a row, even at a desk job, was brutal. I do not normally wear wide footwear. These boots were entirely too narrow and they do not stretch. I repeat, they will not break in significantly in any sort of normal time frame. I have had them for a year and I'm giving up. I even bought a boot stretcher but can't get them to do anything but chew on my feet. They're terrible. If you find them at all uncomfortable when you first put them on, walk away. I know boots have a break-in period but these aren't going to get much more comfortable even after a year of regular wear. The heel and toe are very stiff. The leather around the ankle is very thick and also stiff. These boots look good sitting in your closet but they just aren't designed with actual use and movement in mind. The leather will bunch, pinch, crush, etc your ankles, foot, and toes mercilessly. The sole is also very smooth and completely worthless on snow or ice. These boots turned out to be my biggest case of footwear buyer's remorse. Don't think they'll get better with time. They don't.

My first pair of Red Wing boots. They were a little rough breaking in, but once I applied Red Wing mink oil, they softened up. After about a month of non stop wear, they're very comfortable. Overall, I'm very pleased with them.

These are great shoes! I love the leather - soft and scratched easily. With that these shoes will age beautifully! They are a little stiff when you put them right from the box but I feel they will break in quite nice. As far as sizing goes - I usually wear US 10, or, to be more precise JPN 28cm (I found this measurement to be the most accurate with various brands). With these shoes first I went half a size down, US 9½, and that felt too big. Then I got the US 9 (EE width, I have a strange pinky toe) and with thicker socks these shoes fit perfectly! So I would recommend to go one full size down. I hope this review will help someone.

Just wanted to comment on sizing to help others. I usually wear size 11 and occasionally a 10.5 boot will fit me. I bought these boots in size 10 and they fit perfect. Not tight or loose, just right. The width is snug but will obviously loosen up. I can tell right away that these boots will brake in quickly without blisters, though I wear a lot of boots. Good luck!

Buy 3-5 pair. Try them on and walk around. New, good (well-fitted) boots will have an element of discomfort, it's all about how much you can deal with for 6-8 weeks, and how much you can trust the leather will break within that period. The pair that fit right for you will hit your toes and/or heels in a weird way, but not an intolerable way. You're going to have to deal with it for a while. Also, I sized down a size and a half. Kind of. 11.5 D to 10 EE. Buy 3-5 pair.

Okay, I must admit I was somewhat disappointed when I first received these shoes. They are pricey and my first impression was they were just simple. But after wearing them over time, I have been blown away by the durability and beauty of these shoes! The leather is very stiff when new and it takes quite awhile to break them in. I am not talking about thin Italian glove leather -- this is heavy premium saddle leather. The more you wear them, the more attractive they become. And the soles are deceiving. I was concerned that I would wear the heals quickly as I typically do -- but seriously -- I have worn these shoes for months on end without hardly any wear at all to the heals! If you are looking for a shoe that is broken in from day one, don't buy these. If you like shoes that look good and wear like iron and are willing to break these shoes in, then buy them -- because I promise you -- they will become your friend.

While I'm a guy that loves and buys a lot of shoes, I never would have dreamed of spending this kind of money on a pair of boots. But long story short, I got tired of other options being uncomfortable and/or falling apart, so I thought I'd give these a try. I actually started out with the Beckmans, but they were too dressy for me. Too refined of lines, too shiny (not to mention the bulbous toe box). I switched to the Iron Rangers and after a few sizing issues, I ended up with the best article of clothing I've ever spent money on. The Fit. I have relatively small but wider-than-average feet. Going up a half size (to get the width right) made the boot too long, allowing way too much slop and movement. I ended up with a 7.5, a full size if not size and a half smaller than normal, in an EE width (never had that size before!). This seemed like an odd size for me, but trust me and do yourself a favor: spend the time to find the right size. It makes all the difference in the world. The boots were tight, at first, but over time have wrapped themselves to my feet perfectly. I've never had this good or comfortable of a fit from any shoe. Ever. The Looks. It's obviously subjective, but I love the look of these boots. They're easy to dress up with some chinos and a dress shirt, but can just as easily be dressed down with some jeans and a T-shirt. Very versatile! I get compliments on them all the time, from men and women alike. The Zappos photos make the boots look very muted in color with a matte finish. And while they're not far off, do know that the color is slightly richer with a bit more luster. I suppose that also depends on how you care for them, though. And on that note...Protecting your Purchase. I do 3 simple but relatively time consuming steps (an hour total?), about once per month: 1. Clean - Don't mess around folks. Just use Red Wing's cleaning product. It doesn't cost more than other stuff and I think they'd know the best formula for their own product. It's a liquid cleaner, goes on easy. 2. Nourish - Use Red Wing's boot oil. It looks like it darkens it, at first, but it doesn't. Once it totally dries, it's back to normal. Boot oil should be used for this leather. While it contains some amount of mink oil, it's not sure mink oil so it doesn't permanently darken the leather. This step moisturizes the leather, brings the color back out and leaves a beautiful finish to the surface. 3. Protect - I use a clear leather protector (also Red Wing's). Kind of like spray paint, try to get a light, even coating. If it gets on too heavy, you'll have visible (though "clear") runs. I often mist it on as evenly as possible and dab at it to remove excess. Doing this regularly keeps the leather in tip-top shape and these boots should last a few decades, with a resole every 6-8 years. Overall. As you can tell, I love these boots. But it was also a to of money for me. So hear that they are worth every penny! Looks, comfort, durability and value. Wear them on a lazy day, wear them out on a hot date. You won't regret it! Side Notes. For whatever reason, the sole will stain your socks for like 5 months. The rust-colored stains don't wash out, so wear cheap socks for a while? These aren't great on ice. The cork soles are comfortable and actually great on wet / oily surfaces, but the bottoms are very smooth and therefore don't get great traction on smooth surfaces. The surface does scuff up relatively easily, since it's such a supple leather. But don't worry! Do the cleaning process I described above and every mark comes out (marks and scuffs, not scratches).
