I ordered 8 pairs of hiking shoes so that I could try them on at home, keep the best fit, and return the rest to Zappos. This Ahnu Sugarpine Air Mesh was one of two remaining contenders when I was done sorting through all 8 choices. It felt like a breath of fresh air after I slipped it onto my foot! It was so comfortable, and free, and light, and grippy on my wood floor. I wear a size 11, and I ordered the size 11, which is the biggest size they sell in this shoe. Interestingly, the Ahnu Sugarpine waterproof shoe, size 11, (a different shoe on a different webpage) was too snug for me in both width and length, particularly in length. So I had to send that one back. But this Ahnu Sugarpine Air Mesh felt like a million bucks! It had no heel slippage. The length and width felt perfect. In fact, as I wore it around the house for about an hour, on wood and tile flooring, I came to realize that it may just be too roomy! I'll never be sure. But it began to strike me that this shoe, the Ahnu Sugarpine Air Mesh, had so much room, particularly in the width, and felt so lightweight, that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't provide all the support I needed on rocky and root-filled trails. Sure enough, I came back to the Zappos website to re-read some reviews, and it turns out that other people felt it didn't provide enough support, or that rocks and roots seemed to poke through the soles (not in a literal sense). And so, despite the fact that this shoe felt so extraordinarily comfortable, I decided to send it back. The Merrell Moab Ventilators won out for me. (However, I'm going to keep this shoe in the back of my mind for future orders, should I ever decide to purchase a regular walking shoe, or an everyday fall or winter shoe, rather than a hiking shoe for rocky, desert-y trails.) I ordered this shoe in Vallarta Blue. It was a very pretty color, and I particularly liked the purple accents. However, if I were to keep the shoe, and if I had it to do all over again, I think I would order the Astral Aura or the Dark Grey instead, in an attempt to lengthen the line of my legs. The Vallarta Blue was a bright color that drew more attention to my size 11 feet, it seemed, than I would have ideally preferred.

Ahnu has been my go-to brand for several years, and I was excited to receive these shoes. While they are relatively comfortable, if you, like me, are looking for a pair of shoes with the amazing footbed of the Ahnu Windsor, you will be disappointed. The Windsor held my feet in exactly the right position to align them properly with my knees and hips. The Sugarpine footbed is way too cushy and unstable for me. If you are looking for a soft footbed, however, you might be really happy with this product.

I have a pair of Ahnu hiking boots that I've had for several years and love. I needed a new pair of tennis shoes so I decided to try these. They are just as comfortable as my hiking boots and offer good support. They come up higher on my foot than previous tennis shoes I've had (not low profile), so I had to adjust for a day or two. I love this brand because they make a 10.5, and all shoe companies should follow suit! I really love these shoes and am happy with my purchase!

Great shoe for support through the arch and heal. Love the mesh in the summer as they are so much cooler than the waterproof Ahnu's I wear in the fall and winter. True to size. I always get compliments on my Ahnu's. Everyone says they're good looking, and want to know what brand and where to get them. My pet sitter loves them and now wears them because she saw them on my feet. She is a dog walker and loves to hike on trails. This is my fourth pair. I wear them for work as a school bus monitor for special needs children in Kansas City, MO.

Loving this shoe, comfy right out of the box. I tried on the 8 and 9 at the store but they didn't have an 8.5 so I ordered it on Zappos. They fight perfectly. I have hiked 30 miles so far and they are very sturdy and comfortable. Others in our group had moleskins and blisters but not me- no issues whatsoever. I am normally a street size 8.

These are terrific shoes. Lightweight but sturdy. Nice big toebox. I brought them for travel and combined hiking. They should work perfectly.

This is the first time I've tried Ahnu shoes. I am very pleased! So light, and still have great support! And love the color. Felt a tad bit wide. But wouldn't change a thing.

These are great shoes for people with foot problems! I will be ordering more since there is such a great variety of sane color choices. I am 69, I wear a 9B. In these shoes the 8½B was extremely comfortable. The price is very comfortable as well. Zappos, you deserve thousands of stars to bring the shoe store in my home with a smile on your face!

My feet don't like shoes, period. These Ahnu's are so comfortable, I don't even know that I am wearing them.

This was my first time purchasing the AHNU brand shoe and I was not disappointed. I purchased the Astral Aura the colors are a true navy blue and a vegas gold. This is one of the most comfortable and supportive shoe I have ever bought.

Love these shoes! I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes are extremely comfortable. I bought them for walking and they are perfect!

After wearing asics and merrill I decided to give these a try and I was pleasantly surprised. I wear 10.5 and they're nearly impossible to find in the store so ordering online was my only option. I had to trust the opinions of others and they proved to be pretty accurate. Fit well, light weight for a hiker, and not bad looking. They've stretched a little but I not enough to justify a smaller size. Unlike Asics I can wear these without my feet getting dirty(Asics owners understand) but they don't get too hot. Love ZAPPOS for so many options in my size.

I love Ahnu brand and own two pairs of their boots so decided to try this shoe as well. It has lots of room and great support. Exactly what I expected.

Just returned from a vacation in France that involved a lot of walking. These shoes arrived just days before our trip and made all the difference in my ability to fully enjoy exploring what the region has to offer. I had been suffering from plantar fasciitis for several months and it was recommended that I wear shoes like this - exclusively - until it calms down. (I like to wear a Haflinger slide in the summer months but had to stop wearing these when walking any distance.) I took a new pair of Keens and these Ahnu Sugarpine Air Mesh shoes. I found myself reaching for these Ahnu shoes again and again. I know I will use the Keens as the weather gets cooler, but the Ahnu were so comfortable and felt "light" on my feet. Note: I also wore Powerstep orthotic inserts (as suggested by my doctor and a physical therapist) and Feetures! socks. Very comfortable combination! And my plantar fasciitis is much better.

Love these shoes! I take my dog for a long walk every morning to the beach - about 4 1/2 to 5 miles. Tried some Oboz but got terrible calluses and blisters on the outside of each big toe after several months. Finally found this pair of Ahnu's in size 11 (thought I wore a 10.5 but had to exchange for 11) and they fit perfectly and have excellent support - and are light weight. Couldn't ask for more. Now I will have to see if I can find a low leather version for when it gets colder...already have the Montaras for deep winter, which I also love. Excellent shoes. If only they'd make 11.5 for my friend.

Super-cute shoe. Fits my size 11 foot a little wide. And it's a little more support than I want, though I think for most women, it would be just right.

These are my every day shoes. Solid construction.I have medium to narrow feet and wear a 10-10.5. The 10.5 works for me in this brand. I wear these with custom orthotics and they are comfortable all day. Some one had commented on how they feet had gotten wet thru he mesh. I have not had this problem though I can't say I have been walking thru many water puddles.

Hurrah...I finally found hiking shoes that fit. One of my feet is 10.5 and the other is 11. I ordered 3 pairs of Ahnu's and they all fit. The Sugarpine is light and breaths well. I'm a happy camper. Thank you Zappos for all your patience with the shipping.

I purchased the Ahnu Sugarpine a couple months ago and really like them. When they came out with the mesh version, I purchased it and it fits the same. These will be my summer hiking shoe as the mesh is more breathable.

Great shoe very comfortable runs true to size but not waterproof.love them I will purchase these in another color .

I loved these shoes right out of the box -- just received them yesterday and walked my dog about four miles this morning then kept them on a while longer. Just very comfortable and I liked that my size 9 did not look HUGE in such a clunky style of shoe. Hikers are not exactly stylish but these come close and I would say the size is pretty accurate. I wear a 9 most of the time and probably would have been sorry for a shorter toe box. The shoe is roomy without being too loose. My hope is that the superior sole will outlast the running/walking shoes I have bought in the past to take long walks with my excellent black lab. :)

I purchased both the Sugarpine Air Mesh and the Calaveras WP. I am keeping both and they are quite different. This Sugarpine has a less bulky, more lightweight feel. The cushioning and arch support are excellent. The sole is broad, rugged, and very stable. They felt great the instant I put them on and they have an actual shoelace so the fit on the upper is more snug. The upper is like a sneakers- padded and lightweight. They will be good for summer and dry weather. It is not waterproof. The Calaveras WP is the "better" of the two in the sense that it is made of slightly more durable materials. Literally the moment I put them on, I could feel the ache in my lower back open up and unwork itself. The arch support and cushioning is superior. I toyed with keeping just these, but they are heavier, clunkier, and noticeably more warm. The shoe is waterproof so it does not breath like the Sugarpine- I'd die in the Texas summer. That said, we've had rainy days and they are great. My traction is awesome. We plan to to to Yosemite and Calaveras WP will be my hikers. Once we return, the Sugarpine will be likely getting the most use of the two.

Just ordered my second pair. Lasted two summer seasons of fairly regular wear before they began tearing. As some have suggested, this is not a waterproof shoe, but I got it because the mesh keeps your feet cool. Great for summer hiking.

I gave these 5 stars even though they are not as described. Wildly comfortable right out of the box. But contrary to the description, they are NOT waterproof (and no gusseted tongue for waterproofiness). I also ordered the WP version, which are also great, and I'm keeping those. I'm liking Ahnus!!
