I really wanted to love these shoes. They are really cute for Tevas, feminine and stylish, while also seeming durable. I normally wear between an 8½ and a 9. I have high arches, fairly high instep, and medium width feet. Right out of the box, they are very comfortable, especially for a synthetic footbed. The 8½, honestly, was a little roomy, but I thought that could be a good thing when summer heats up and it was not a large enough discrepancy in size to warn you to size up. The mesh top seems as if it would be comfortable in the summer. Here are the two reasons I returned them. First, the strap that goes over your foot secures with a little snap. It is cute, but you cannot adjust it. On me, the strap was pretty loose fitting and worked more as a decoration than something to hold my foot in the shoe. I have such a high instep, I have never before experienced that. Another reviewer noted that you can tuck this strap behind your heel, effectively changing the sandal from a mary jane to a step in. Perhaps this account for the extra room. Secondly, these shoes are very flat. I wore them around the living room on the rug for maybe 15 minutes and in that brief period of time, developed pain under my right heel. I do not know what it is in the design of these sandals, but they clearly irritated my plantar fascia (and not even in my bad ankle/foot but the good one). This is not usually something that I have trouble with, so I do not want to add anything to the mix that will bring that on. Within 10 minutes of taking them off, my heel felt fine. Bottom line, I think they are adorable and they would have been great summer sandals, but they were not a good fit for my feet.

My wife looks so hot in these! She says they are comfortable, but will not wear them to the gym if she is going to do squats. They are too short for that. The waist band is wide and does not dig into her sides. I can sense that she is flattered that we had to exchange the size small for extra small. I will not tell her that I think they run a little big in the waist.

  • Patagonia by Maha Sling Overall Rated: 2 stars! Comfort Rated: 2 stars! Look Rated: 5 stars! Apr 21, 2014 happy_blackbird from Berkeley, CA

A little background on my feet so that you can get a sense if this review will be helpful for you. I wear a size 8.5 to 9 depending on the manufacturer and style (sandals are usually an 8.5, boots and most designer brands I get closer to a 9). I have high arches, a fairly high instep, and even though I am a regular width, like a wider toe box (unless I am wearing pointed toe heels). I had a pretty whopping foot/ankle break and ligament tear a few years ago, so I am always on the lookout for cute and stylish, yet supportive shoes for each season. I followed other reviewers advice and bought the Maha Sling in an 8.5. Right out of the box, they felt kind of stiff and not supportive on my arches in the slightest while also a little big on my foot. They have the feel of a really minimalist shoe, not much in the way of support, sort of in the same category with Merrell's Glove line. I thought they were really cute, especially when paired with rolled up jeans, but they just don't have enough structure for my feet and weren't comfortable right out of the box to take the time to break in. Alas, back they went.
