    Adaptation Period:
  • Adjusting to Newton running shoes will depend upon several factors including: your current running shoes, your running form, gait efficiency, as well as your speed and flexibility. Those new to natural running form or those transitioning from a shoe with traditional cushioning will benefit from spending adequate time adjusting. This is because your body will need time to lengthen the muscles and tendons on the back of the leg and under the foot.
  • Newton recommends first-timers walk in their shoes for several days to become accustomed to the level platform. Walking barefoot on safe and comfortable surfaces can also be helpful. Once ready, begin by introducing short runs of no longer than 15 minutes every other day. Gradually add 10-15 minutes as your feet and leg muscles begin to strengthen. If you experience soreness that persists for more than two days, reduce time in shoes immediately. Rest and ice the area until the soreness subsides, then slowly begin introducing time in shoes again.
  • Sizing: Newton recommends ordering a ½ size larger than you average shoe size.
  • An ultralightweight racing flat that boasts a zero-drop differential and is designed for serious speed.
    Includes an optional 3mm lift.
  • Ultralight, highly breathable, fast-drying, open mesh upper offers a glove-like fit.
  • Seamless synthetic overlays are anatomically placed for light structural support.
  • Slip-proof laces with double eyelets that help lock down the heel.
  • Plush tongue and collar for added comfort.
  • Fabric lining supplies a soft step-in feel.
  • ETC anti-friction, antimicrobial sockliner promotes a great in-shoe environment.
  • Second-Generation Action/Reaction Technology: A highly responsive, trampoline-like and engaging midsole cushioning that protects and loses less energy with each step.
  • High-rebound EVA.
  • Biomechanical Sensor Plate allows the foot to sense the ground promoting a lighter, more efficient stride.
  • Met-flex for enhanced forefoot flexibility.
  • Drainage points allow for the dispelling of moisture.
  • High-density rubber at the toe and heel.
  • 5mm lugs at mid-foot for optimal traction.

The inspiration behind Newton® running shoes, as well the brand’s name, was Sir Isaac Newton and his third law of motion, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

A leader in natural running, Newton believes that maintaining natural running form without being barefoot requires a shoe that allows the foot to connect with the ground as though it is shoeless. Any geometric change interferes with the natural gait, which is why every shoe is built on a level platform that mimics the foot’s natural geometry. Unhindered, flexible movement is essential, as long as the shoe is still protective enough to prevent injury over harsh terrain.

Newton encourages landing on the mid-foot to forefoot. When you walk, you heel strike. Sprinting propels you forward, causing you to land on your toes. The brand believes that optimal running gait falls somewhere in between. To help maintain this, Newton has taken great care to research and design their shoes. You will find technologies like Active Membrane Technology™, Action/Reaction Technology™ and the Biomechanical Sensor Plate throughout the line.

So who are Newton running shoes for? They are for runners who are already mid-foot or forefoot strikers, as well as those who are working on transitioning from heel striking to a more natural running form.

Slip into a Newton running shoe and experience the science of motion.

I have been working my way toward minimal shoes over the last year or so. I started running (3 years ago) with relatively light, low shoes within the spectrum of most running shoes, Mizuno Wave Riders. More recently my shoe of choice has been the Saucony Kinvaras. They steered me in the direction of minimal, being extremely light with a mere 4 mm heel drop. While I plan to continue doing a lot more happy running in them, I have a new love to rotate with them, the Newton MV2's. I couldn't resist the opportunity to take advantage of Newton's current 60 day trial promotion. I tried and bought them at our favorite local running store, where I was encouraged to take them outside for a spin on the sidewalk. These are strictly running shoes; unlike the gamut of most running shoes from minimal to technical, you won't want to use them as walking or casual shoes. I'd never tried on Newtons so the forefoot lugs were a new experience. I find they give a little pop of energy in the very place of my natural foot strike and I took to them immediately. They conceit of the Newton design is to either do that, or correct a misplaced foot strike. In doing so, they also give a little cushion only to the part of the foot that takes the impact. Yet, they are otherwise entirely minimalist; feather light and flat. After some running I put in the 3 mm heel insert to give my calves a chance to adjust, even though I'd been running in fairly flat shoes already. After having only run in them once -- some intervals on our street -- I did a 5k race last weekend. At the start I felt like a jackrabbit, not expecting how fast they encouraged me to run. I got less tired than I usually do toward the end, and had no pain afterward or the following day. I also ran a faster race than my last few. I believe if a shoe makes you feel fast, you either will be, or at the very least will feel you are having to make less effort. I wear thin socks with them so can't attest to how they feel sockless. I always wear a size 9 in running shoes and I do in these as well (my regular shoe size is 8.5). Some reviewers complain about the tapered toe box. I do not find then cramped at all, and I like the way the shoe cradles my foot. I am not a true barefoot runner and these aren't orthodox barefoot shoes. I guess there is a distinction between seriously barefoot-oriented and minimal. I also like the extreme breathability of the mesh, the way the laces stay tied securely, and the way they seem to repel dirt. It's a good thing since they are mostly white! I just attended a track workout where we ran part of the time on the grass, which was wet and somewhat muddy. The shoes still look new, and the dirt dried right off of them. If you've ever been curious about Newtons, now is the time to try them, and particularly this shoe if you're drawn to lightweight racing flats. I've heard, on the other handy that Newton customer service is so outstanding, they would give money back on a used shoe anyway if, for whatever reason, they didn't work out.

I'd also recommend: Saucony, Mizuno

Got these in black/neon green and I can not describe how comfortable they are! It is a little slow process to get used to them. If you are not familiar with Newton's, read the information and apply it. Don't just go out and run the first thing after you buy them! They are so light and good enough arch support for me. I figured my running pace increased substantially. I will definitely buy the other color. Thank you Zappos for wonderful and fast service.

I am an avid front foot runner and wanted these for the extra cushion they provide. Only used them one time, so far, as I live in a snowy climate and the material is practically mesh. Going to start running on tm with these. Overall, pricey, even though they were on sale, but fun shoes, nonetheless. Less stars are given because the material is so thin that I cannot wear them in the winter months. Also, size up a 1/2 size. They run very small. I was told this my a friend and purchased my regular size and a 1/2 size up. I kept the half size up.
