La Canadienne Reviews
Great looking boot. Feels wonderful on. Since I ordered them at the end of the winter season I have yet to wear them anywhere and have no idea about how the surface withstands the elements - which is why I gave this 3 stars overall.
These were great all-purpose boots for a month-long trip to Asia. They were comfortable for all-day walking in cities and parks. Minimal padding though, so not great for hiking steep rocky hills. Fit was true to size for me. The zipper-plus-laces isn't as superfluous as it may seem: it allowed adjusting a snug fit to my skinny calves, with easy on-and-off in airports etc. Kept feet dry in heavy rain and shallow puddles. Took heavy use and abuse and are still in excellent shape. Style-wise these boots are basic, not trendy, which is good for me because I've already lived through the '80's once. They look cute with thick socks, tights or thin leggings, and sometimes (surprisingly) with rolled-up khakis.
Awesome! So comfortable. I wear them mostly up with skirts and with pants (either under or over skinny pants) but have discovered that they also look great also rolled down! I wear either a 7 or 7.5 and got these in 7.5 and they are absolutely fine although I think size 7 would maybe have been a tiny bit better but they felt so good I just kept the 7.5 and they are still extremely comfy.
Can never get enough of this brand...high quality, wears like iron, and stands up to midwest snow. I generally buy a little larger so heavy socks can fit.
Comfortable and versatile. These boots will never go out of fashion. I wear with jeans and dresses. I call them my "go to" boots and have a pair in black and brown.
I bought this boot to travel around Europe knowing that cobblestone streets would be part of that experience. For some reason, I didn't notice the zipper on the side until they arrived. It is a brillant idea and makes this boot easy to slip off and on. I have already been wearing all around town and highly recommend this boot.
Great fitting boot. Soft leather outer with a bit of insulation on the footpad for warmth. Will be wonderful for winter. Heel and sleek style will go with either skirts or pants
Sadly, the expensive boots felt and looked cheap -- especially the inner and outer soles. The soles were of an inferior material, and I'd have to drop another more for something decent. Might as well start with a better boot at that point. I just can't drop this much on crappy Chinese stuff at this point.
The calf seem more narrow that specified & had another pair of La Canadienne boots & had no problem zipping them up. I wish the shaft was an inch taller & an inch wider. I also wish they came in nude leather. Love the heel height very comfortable.
I was pleasantly surprised with the comfort of this boot, I purchased them to wear to a special event and they were exceptionally comfortable and fashionable.
This shoe is very comfortable. The wedge provides uniform support, and the platform makes the heel feel a lot less high than it looks. It gives your foot a sleek look--nice. My heel slips a tiny bit but not enough to concern me. Also, I wear a C width and the Gina comes in Medium only. That said, the fabric upper is stretchy and plenty roomy enough. Great shoes!
This is a great pair of shoes. I ordered 9 instead of 8.5 and fit perfect. First day, the ankle was little too tight, but it stretched out just fine. I walked all over Paris for over a week in rainy weather. Only problem I had was the balls of my feet hurt after first day, but I have same problem with other shoes too. I added in-sole padding and they were fine. Love the look of the shoes.
Just got them tonight, so I don't know how the comfort will be yet, but the fit is fantastic. It does hug your ankle, but that is good in my opinion, since most size 10 boots have big ol' ankles.
These boots were cute but they lasted less than 2 seasons for me. The leather wore right through. I've never had that happen to any shoes before. I contacted the company and emailed then photos. The company said they only stand by their product for 6 months. I would not buy this brand again - very expensive for very poor quality.
Quality issue. I was so excited to get this boot, I wear orthotics and I could remove the insole. They are so comfortable. The only problem is that I wore them twice and the patent part of the patent leather started to crack and fall off. Apparently they are horrible quality. This is very upsetting.
I have skinny calves and looked for a long time for a riding style boot that wouldn't look ridiculously roomy. These are great! Classic style, nice quality leather and weather proof is a plus in the wet pacific NW. :) I was worried about the buckle rubbing on my ankle bone, but broke them in on a trip to Europe and they were comfortable from the first day. I only wish the shafts were all-leather (the back is a elastic-type fabric), but for the sale price they are a great boot and I expect them to last me awhile.
I have had these boots in the black nubuck for two months and the lug sole just separated from the boot. I'm so disappointed because they were incredibly comfortable and soft with no breaking in time required. They have never been wet or in snow as I live in southern California...so these are either defective or poorly made. What a bummer.
Great boot and dressy enough for my business casual office and fun enough to wear out on a Saturday night. I love the suede, love that they're waterproof, and have been pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are.
I had a pair of the cherry patent boots for three years and almost wore them every day in winter. Size 7.5 wide. (I have short wide feet and high instep so I always get boots in 7.5 a size bigger than my 'sandal size'). These are the perfect boots - fit/comfort, function (waterproof), and stylish - casual and dressier. When they developed a crack in the leather where my foot flexes at toes and a crack in the sole at ball of foot I panicked as I could not live without them. I got another pair - actually a 7.5 WW. well something was different and I was disappointed. The calf in this wider size was smaller than the prior boot. And the leather was stiffer. La Canadienne, if you changed you manufacturer -- go back to the one you had 3 or four years ago! I am keeping the boots as they are better than my alternatives. But I've fallen out of love. If the others could be repaired, I would do that -- not sure if that is possible.
Pretty perfect. I prefer boots that are not lined with anything other than leather. An all-leather boot can fit very snugly through the leg because it will stretch and mold to fit the wearer. I imagine that's not possible when you add an insulated, anti-microbial layer. As a result, the boots sag a smidge through the ankle and lower calf. The boots are very comfortable for heels, and feel very stable. I usually wear a 5 1/2 or 6 in boots (and wear thin to thick socks with them). I ordered these in a 5 because that was the only size available. I will be able to wear tights plus thin socks with these, so I think they run pretty large.
I really like the style of these boots and how small the calf area is. It's difficult to find dress boots (except for Jimmy Choos) that are narrow in the calf. These were big enough I could tuck in pants/leggings but not so big they looked bad with dresses. The reason for the low rating is that even though I have enough room I can fit my hand in the calf, the zipper keeps breaking. I am disappointed the company doesn't warranty this. Even my cobbler was surprised. I am on the 3 zipper now with these in a year (at a cost/per fix). I like the boots but I'm not sure they are worth the money.
