I have a lot of Kipling products and have been using this brand for over 2 decades. Along with LeSportsac, Kipling is still my go-to brand (and actually preferred one) when it comes to travel paraphernalia because it's so lightweight but has robust zippers that make opening and closing pockets or compartments a breeze. I bought this bag in a black/white zebra print directly from Kipling because Zappos didn't have that design, and I'm a little on the fence about the bag. I bought it for traveling, as I like to have a small crossbody bag for important stuff like money, passport, boarding pass etc and a bigger one for the rest - but this didn't really turn out as useful as I thought it would be. For my personal use and preference, the individual compartments just aren't the right size and I feel that it will get very bulky very quickly without retaining its shape. However - I also think this would be the perfect bag for someone who's more of a minimalist and likes to stay organized. For me, I don't travel lightly and even my day to day bag is always crammed full - but if you're not like that, if you keep your purse/bag to the essentials only, this would be a great idea.

I am really happy with my purchase! The Kipling Defea Handbag is the perfect handbag! Everything about this handbag is amazing. I love the colors i.e. black and silver and the many different ways I can wear it. Also the pockets on it are awesome because I can carry a lot and it is still light weight. Thanks to Zappos I found my perfect handbag.

I love this bag! I put my cellphone in side pocket for easy reach and the ample pockets on front and back hold items I don't want to search for. I found the black coated Kipling Defea bag at TJMaxx for $49.00. Now, that's a bargain!

This is the perfect bag for being out with my dog and attending his training classes. The compartments make it easy to organize wallet, phone, training treats and a roll of baggies. Kipling may not have had dog walking in mind when they designed the bag but I highly recommend it for that purpose. I keep the treats in the small zippered compartment and it is easy to wipe clean when needed.

This is the perfect backpack for a petite person who needs to carry alot of things around campus. Being very wide vs very tall makes it easier for a 5'3" person. Also the padded backpack strips and handle allow you to carry however you want depending upon the load. The padded back is perfect protection for a laptop and it has numerous zippers and places for storing all your other stuff i.e. iphone, keys, water bottles, etc.

Love this bag... gray is my new favorite neutral and this one is great. Sturdy construction and every handle option... hand, shoulder, and cross body (the strap is plenty long for cross body)... holds a lot of my apparently necessary 'stuff'. Great value for the money.

I got Kipling because I don't enjoy learther anymore. Although the wallet is light but due to an insert that makes it firm....this not the slim wallet. But the style is way way better than what I was using before so needless to say I like it very much. So I would recommend it. Zappo's, where is the zip around Kipling style wallet with 2 zips? I around but why not on your site?

I love this backpack! The color is beautiful and I love the straps. They are a lot wider than those string backpacks so they do not dig into your shoulders. I am planning on using this backpack as my purse/hold my kids stuff when we go to Disney this summer. This is an awesome bag!

Cute design, but when it was loaded up with my credit cards it was too hard to get the cards out. I also prefer two zippered pockets - one for change and one for all those little reward cards.

I was on the fence for a long time because I think it is over priced. I ordered it anyway because of Zappos' excellent return policy. But it is not going back! I absolutely love the bag! It looks small but fits a lot and I am so glad I bought it! I hope they have more color choices.

The perfect backpack! It's so beautiful (I got the turquoise color). I love all the zippered compartments. It's roomy enough for my Toshiba notebook. A+.

Great light-weight bag that's neither too big nor too small. Has loads of pockets (9 total including main compartment) that's perfect for someone who likes to keep things organized in their purse. Main compartment has a divider and big enough to hold my LV full sized wallet, small umbrella, sunglasses and a packet of hand wipes. There are 4 more pockets inside the bag and one of them is zippered. There are also two outside pockets on each side of the bag. One of them is zippered and the other is velcro closure. They're perfect for things that need easy access such as my smart phone, small mirror, a pen and lip gloss. Although it's a cross body bag, the straps can be adjusted short enough to use as a shoulder bag and has a drop of 15 inches when used as such so there's lots of clearance on top of the bag. I'm 5'5" with a short torso so when I use it as a shoulder bag, the bottom ends up at mid-hip for me. The straps are wide and don't hurt my shoulder even when I pack the bag with lots of things. Overall, it's a great everyday bag that's easy to clean and maintain without having to worry about it.

I just returned this bag after using it for a week or so. Even though it wasn't for me it is still a great bag. All the organizational pockets are excellent and I especially like that there's velcro on the back pocket. The polka dot lining is wipeable and light so that it's not a big black hole when you look inside. I also like that the two drink pockets have zippers -- they help the bag with one of its best features: looking pretty darn cool. Ultimately I sent it back because it's a bit too big and heavy for my needs. Also, although part of why I bought the bag was that it features built in stroller straps, they did flap around somewhat and that bothered me.

I used this bag for the first time today. I wore it with a black dress to a wedding. With the patent leather (faux) trim and the gold accents, it worked really well. It fit my glasses, phone, lipstick, comb and a small wallet. Perfection!

I'm a little biased because I grew up with Kipling products in the late 80s/early 90s - and I still love them even though they're, sadly, now all made in China. The Cerulean blue I bought this in is absolutely fabulous, a beautifully vibrant color that just puts a smile on your face and is a perfect stand-out from the usual black or other neutral colors. I bought this to match the Noelle bag I bought in the same color and am very happy with it so far, although in all honesty I haven't had much of a chance to put them to the test yet. Still: form, function, practicality and style converge on just about all Kipling products, and I can only hope that their current manufacturing process, albeit outsourced, maintains the same standards.

It's a little hard to review this because I'm totally biased - I've known and bought Kipling brand items long before they became well-known everywhere. While, as I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm terribly disappointed that Kipling has joined the rank and file of companies outsourcing their manufacturing overseas, the overall unique appeal remains. I can't yet comment on the durability of the newer Kipling items, I can only hope that they'll stand the test of times like my "old" ones - some of which date back to the late 80s/early 90s and remain like new. I've NEVER experiences any rips, tears or other types of issues with a Kipling product to date, but I will admit that I don't use them on an every day basis. This tote is beautiful, vibrant, practical and perfect for a myriad of uses - I liked it so much I ordered the black one within days of receiving this one!

This is the absolutely most perfect carrying case for anyone who does journaling, sketching, smashbooks, runs around with a Filofax etc. Not only do you have compartmentalization for art supplies, pens, pencils - or, alternatively, beautiful supplies - the whole case is super lightweight and super cute! I have this in at least 6 different colors now and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if a color/pattern came along I liked. I keep one filled with markers, another one for travel etc. Endlessly functional, practical and tons of uses!

I've owned Kipling items for over 20 years and while I'm hugely disappointed that, like everyone else, they've sold out and outsourced their manufacturing overseas, their appeal remains. In fact, I bought this tote just a day or two after buying it in blue - and finding the style so perfect for my personal needs that I just had to have it in black for traveling. As with all Kipling items, the lightweight nylon material is perfect especially for travel. What I do find lacking in the bags, though, is any kind of optional structure or internal compartmentalization - basically if it's not filled to capacity, it's going to slouch significantly. Also, I would've preferred the shorter handles to be a little longer and/or adjustable, and the strap to be removable for more options. But, it's a great purse for anyone who needs extra spacious bags for work, it's perfect for going to the gym and travel.

I purchased this bag for a overseas trip and I'm glad that I spent the money on it. Being able to hike and run around without worrying about holding or forgetting my bag somewhere was amazing. This bag held all that I needed and more. I would recommend this bag highly.
