Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Reading the reviews, I ordered a half size smaller and the fit was perfect. The quality looks great but only time will tell. Love the shoe and glad I ordered a half size down. Very happy with the purchase.

I have been shopping for black shoes for years (I just do not like many of the available styles so I usually stick to auburn and brown). Then I came across this Frye style, black on black design. They are very sharp, in a subtle way. And they look great with dress slacks. I am a size 11½ - 12, so when the 11½ were too large I was worried. Zappos has a great return policy so I swapped them for the size 11, which felt a bit snug on the sides, while the length was correct. Now, I was worried. I really liked the style/design and I did not want to spend another few years finding the right black shoes, so I decided to stick with the size 11. And I am glad that I did. Although a bit on the heavy side, the shoes are very comfortable and feel great. I am a professor and spend a lot of time on my feet and these shoes will help in this respect. Even though they are a bit pricey, I would recommend Frye for style and comfort. And I look forward to purchasing from Zappos again in the future.

Hip version of a classic style. Seems like a well-built shoe. Nice heavy sole that will take some wear. Seems a touch big.

Handsom shoe. Comfortable and classic preppy. The waxed suede will wear well and develope style with adge. I got the brown waxed suede because I expect it will keep its rugged charm. The flexible rubber sole keeps it from being a stiff dress shoe. Worth the $$$. Frye is my go to shoe company for all the reasons listed above.
