The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Where to begin on this fabulous boot! I have 10 pair of Frye boots and these are the most comfy of my heeled boots. I got them today and pulled them out of the box put them on with my skinny jeans. I fell in love. I wore them out tonight. I attended a basketball game and while we waited for the team we wanted to see I walked around an indoor track to give them a good test on comfort, after over a half mile on the track... 5 times around on a 200 meter track... No pain... Only love. I got tons of complements, which is so wild and from total strangers! I came home tossed them on with a dress and I think I need another pair. I got the black and they are the bomb! Now I dare I say it...need the brown. Do not think twice....just get them, they rock ! I wear a size 8 ordered the 8 they are perfect. Pulled up perfect, scrunched down perfect, with skinniest perfect, with dresses perfect! They stay up nice and are super cute and edgy. Love!

I was very excited about buying my first pair of Frye boots since the 1970's - I looked a long time and was very happy with this style - until I put them on. I remember Frye boots as being unsurpassed for quality and workmanship, and maybe they still are, but not with the pair I got. They smelled great, wonderful soft leather on the shank of the boot, but when they were on it looked like a low shoe-boot with a leather knee sock attached. The bottom leather is totally different from the entire top of the boot, and it looks it. There was glue showing where the sole attached to the boot as well. Just not worth the money. Very disappointing. Back they go. On sizing - I wear a 7 to 7.5 normally and ordered an eight, which felt a bit swimmy, so I'd say they run true to size. Zappos is the best...makes it easy to buy and return!

How much do I love these boots? So much that I own them in two colors (Black and the Cognac). For a boot that offers that much height (serious height!) they are comfortable and easy to walk in. I've never had a heeled boot that I can actually run around the city in. Mind you after many hours on your feet you still will feel some heel fatigue, but this boot is far easier to walk in and far more comfortable than any other I've owned. I also love the look of them. They are sexy and versatile - and the scrunched styling (which is not extreme) makes them more contemporary and fashion-forward than a straight shafted high boot. Also, for me, since I have scrawny calves and fuller thighs, these boots camouflage that nicely. I purchased a 6.5 though truly I am a slightly wide 6. I wanted room for thick socks (and in the Cognac that was the only size available). The Black pair therefore does have just a bit too much room in the heel for me, so I must be careful not to twist my foot when running around in them. The Cognac pair fits tighter for some reason (almost as if the 6.5 were a 6). A heads up - the Black is a somewhat Antiqued Black (b/c of the nature of the leather), so if you wear them with deeply saturated black pants and leggings expect some difference in color.

I love these boots! I never owned Frye boots before, never found style quiet right. These boots have a significant heel, but front platform assures your foot is not in a high heel position. I have trouble buying boots because I have a narrow foot and an even narrower calf. I need to wear medium thickness socks for the foot to be comfortable, but the calf is perfect with skinny jeans or leggings. The color is a deep burnt orange, not garish at all. A nice change from brown or taupe. They are causal overall, but very stylish. Look fabulous with leggings and a sweater dress. I want to buy a pair in black, but a bit hesitant about the price. However, given the fit and style in a narrow calf boot, I will likely cave in soon!

OK In My other review I said I wish I had them in black. Well I do have them in black now. The thing I thought you guys need to know is that some colors are measuring differently. I ordered Taupe 9 and 8 1/2 and I only could fit 9 but it fits a little too large, however 8 1/2 was really too tight. Black ones I kept 8 1/2 because they felt great. So I do not know why they fit differently, but I would suggest you try a couple to be 100% happy.
