The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I have been wearing Frye boots for years. I love the fact that not only are they made of beautiful leather on the outside, but they are completely lined with leather on the inside, making for a top quality, comfortable boot. The Melissa Back Zip is adorable! It has a great shape to it unlike most normal boots which seem to go straight up and down. These boots follows the contour of a leg, zipper and all! I got the fawn color which turned out to be exactly what I wanted. It reminds me of the color I see on many of the riding boots featured with jeans in some of the trendy magazine ads. It is kind of a neutral brown, not too dark, with a antiqued, weathered flair to it. I just love the color and finish of these boots! The 7½ was a perfect fit and as many have mentioned, comfortable right out of the box. Perhaps the most striking feature about these boots is their simplicity. They do not need all kinds of belts and buckles to look cool. They are classy, understated and elegant in a rustic sort of way. I cannot wait to zip these over my jeans tomorrow!

Quality varies, (I own 3 other Frye boots). I originally got a size 8 though needed a 8.5. The 8 was beautiful! The 8.5 is not the same boot as the 8. I don't think Frye should have sent this pair out the door. The Zipper is not very straight making it harder to zip up. What if it breaks? Additionally, the leather is not black antique soft but too much antiquing or ruined by water or? May try another 8.5. Frye used to be made in US, (as for high cost), now made in Mexico. I know there is excellent craftsmanship by people in Mexico and nothing against all of you in or from Mexico. I think the guy/gal was just learning on my boot, or something. Also for Frye, for the price I wish you offered this boot with a taller shaft height of 16.5 or 17 inches. More so Frye, hope the people who made my boot in Mexico are making a decent wage.

These boots are simply beautiful! The quality of the leather and workmanship is top notch and the fit is perfect. I have the dark brown color which I love. I think they run a little big and the half size lower than my usual size fit me better. I am petite at 5'3 and they hit me at just the right spot below the knee. I live in a warm climate so I have only gotten to wear them a few times so far, but when I have, they definitely turn heads. I have worn them with a skirt and with skinny jeans tucked in and they look awesome with both. They are very versatile boots and can be dressed up or down. I had also tried the plain Melissa Button boots, and they are also darling, but I found they look a little too cowgirl for my tastes. These are a more classic riding boot style in my opinion. They are totally worth the price and will stay in style and last for years!

Hands down, I love these boots. Easy to get into, very comfortable wearing for long periods (I have 2 kids, one is a toddler, so comfort is imperative). Dressy enough to go with skirts, looks great with jeans -- fits over skinny's and even straight legs. Definitely worth the price as I plan to have these well-made boots for some time to come.

Gorgeous boots! Good quality, durable leather that wears beautifully. Back button details (actually snaps) are a nice touch accenting the otherwise clean and sleek design. I have slim calves and usually have difficulty finding tall boots that don't have a lot of extra space around the shaft. These are a perfect fit!

I got the Black Antique Soft Full Grain color (not the shiny Soft Vintage) in size 6. I just received them today (it's really hot out and maybe that affected my legs/feet/the boot) I tried them on with my bare legs and no socks and it was a little difficult to zip my calves in, but they eventually fit snugly. I hope that I can still fit in the boots if I wear jeggings and thin socks... hopefully it'll stretch out with a few wears.I'm usually a size 6 and these fit great. The leather is really nice and the style is simple and classic yet sophisticated. It is very plain from the front, but the zipper and buttons in the back make it special. The boots are comfortable out of the box. I was worried the zipper in the back may hurt my ankle on the inside (I have sensitive feet and get blisters way too easily), but no problems, even without socks. According to the other reviews, Frye boots get comfier with every wear, so I hope that's the case with mine too!
