Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

It kills me to return these boots. There are a lot of great things about them. I am a size 9, ordered a 9 and I think they are true to size. They fit great, maybe a little snug at first, but I think they would break in beautifully. The color I bought (SMOKE) was gorgeous and identical to the picture. The toe has a darker, burnished authentic look as shown. The heel height was perfect, felt stable and comfortable. The problem with these is the oversized collar/shaft area. As other reviewers said, it's wide. It's very wide... it makes the bottom of my jeans actually bell out. Like, super-flare. With my narrower bootleg jeans, the shaft of the boot is completely visible and obvious underneath. I tried tucking my jeans in, but I don't really like that style, personally... Not a look I'm going for and it was a deal-breaker. A shame, because these were perfect in every other way.

At first I thought these boots were amazing. But after about 10 wearings I noticed the harness sagging on either side of both boots. There was glue directly below the rings that attached the harness to the actual boots. This glue had dried up and lost all its stickiness. They are definitely not worth the price. Back to Zappos they go.

These boots are great! I had originally ordered them in my regular size, a size 7 and they didn't fit right so I returned them. Several months later I still wanted them so I ordered 1/2 size larger and I love them! They are so comfortable, right out of the box. They look great with jeans, very stylish.

I was looking for a classic short western-style boot and this is it. It's comfy too. Some people mentioned that it is bulky under your jeans leg but for me, a large tall person, it was not a problem.

I ordered these boots at 4:30pm yesterday and received them today! I couldn't believe they arrived that fast. I got these boots in the Smoke color. I love them!! It is a beautiful brown and they look perfectly worn in. I have these boots in tall in the Gray color. The leather on those looks more pebbled, and the Smoke is a smooth leather. I have the tall in a size 8, but read some of the reviews on here saying over time the leather would stretch out a little. I got these in a 7.5 and they fit great! I honestly can't afford these boots, but they are so awesome! I have to keep them! :)

I am completely in love with my Carmen shorts. I have the black waxed suede and the leather smoke. Both are amazing. Super comfortable, I have worn them out shopping and at work on my feet all day with no sore feet. No break-in time, these were great from the start. My other Fryes (Veronica short) took a bit of time to loosen up. These boots are wonderful for dressing up an outfit, even jeans and a tee feels sexy in these. The quality is top-notch, these babies will last a lifetime.
