Lighter and not as stiff as I was expecting. I walk on concrete and these are doing a good job absorbing the shock. Composite toe is approved to work in our MRI rooms. Good quality boot. Have recommended to coworkers.

I bought these for my son, for Christmas. They were perfect, but ran smaller and narrower than marked. I called and ask to return for a size larger (which comes a little wider also). The rep was so helpful and personal, even funny...but a real pro! I had the new ones in two days. Before I could even get time to drive the two miles to drop them off for return at UPS. This is the kind of service you desire, but rarely find now days. Almost makes me happy my son goes through shoes so quickly, just so I could deal with these guys again!

Ok, I'll be honest. I went to see the movie Wild and fell in love with these boots. I thought they were pricey and thought I'll order them, try them on and get my fix and send them back. I LOVE them!!! No way I'm sending them back. Felt great from the moment I put them on and they look great on. They don't look bulky. They look like a woman's boot. I'm so glad I bought them.

Very happy with this boot. Just got these today. Had them on for about 5 hours. After the first 15 minutes I could feel my left achilles starting to rub. Fortunately I had moleskin, put it on, and wore the boots around the rest of the day. In addition to wearing them in the house, I also walked outside about a mile. I would definitely say they run true to size, if not a little roomy length wise, which is how they are supposed to fit. Too many women are used to spending their days with their toes squished, and then when they can finally wiggle them a bit they think their shoes are too big. Ladies if you didn't have wiggle room and you hike up and especially down hills, you will lose your toenails! You are better off wearing a thicker pair of socks, as long as your heel isn't slipping. Beautifully made boot, I expect to have these for years.

These are great boots. They are exceptionally well made, comfortable, and reduce fatigue/pain in my feet and ankles because they support the lower leg area so well. I bought a pair of Danner's Vicious boots as a Christmas gift for my son and he's very satisfied, too. He no longer has knee and ankle discomfort after wearing his boots and he's on his feet 8-12 hours a day at work. He no longer has to wear a knee support sleeve.

Really great quality. Best fitting most comfortable boot I've worn. Took about two weeks to break in. Used to wear Red Wings, but they just never fit me quite right. These are perfect. I have a wide foot, ordered the 12 EE they fit me exactly perfect.

Great boot, I was in Vermont last week and it was bitter cold but my feet were always warm and extremely comfortable.

I love my Vertigo's. With thick socks they are the most comfortable and light boots I have. These are probably not for serious hiking, but more casual style wear. I normally wear size 11.5 in sport shoes like running or sneakers, 11 in Red Wing boots and have normal width feet, usually wearing D. these are only available in EE, and I got mine on sale and there was only one size left, a 12. I was nervous they wouldn't fit because I've never worn 12EE, but when I got them with thick wool outdoors type sock they fit perfectly and, as I said, are extremely comfortable and feather light. If you like the vintage hiking look but don't want to wear clunky heavy boots for that effect, these are perfect. for serious backpacking and trekking I have both traditional leather and more modern hiking boots. I have the limited edition 1022x version with grey uppers and brick red vibram soles and they look fantastic.

Ordered two sizes. I am a solid 8.5 normally. Ordered 8 and 8.5. 8.5 was a tad too roomy and 8 was classic hugging Danner fit. I was nervous about size to keep but I don't wear crazy thick socks either. Wear smart wool socks and go down 1/2 size. If you wear thicker socks or are at the top of your size, order normal size. A lot of room by ankle and 8.5 had too much extra movement which I can see giving blisters and becoming too sloppy after wear. Trust Danner sizing; they are spot on.

These boots have several issues: 1. The leather is cheaply tanned, meaning that the dye do not go very deep into the leather. Consequently, when the boots are scuffed-- as will eventually happen at the top coating comes off revealing a lighter leather beneath and not very nice to look at. The scuffed leather sometimes has "flaps" with it too, another sign of cheap leather. One would expect $300 boots to have deeply tanned and thick leather. These boots do not. 2. The lowest inner shoe lace rivet digs into both big toes. I had these boots for a couple of years and the gouging is still an issue. I can no longer comfortably wear these boots. 3. The boots do not have a footbed. They come with small plastic "airthotics" but they do not do much. Positive points are: 1. The boots are classically stylish. You can wear them to the office on inclement weather days. 2. The boots have comfortable padded tongues.

This is a Made in America Company. These are incredibly durable boots. To break in the boots, it is a process (must bend the sole back and forth a few times).

I have these with the regular Vibram outsole. I used to wear Red Wings. I decided to try these because they seem like a good company. My size is 12½. They do not make 12½. I decided to go with the 12 because I know how work boots stretch from standing all day. I would rather have three months of break in and several years of comfort as opposed to three months of comfort and years of blisters from loose boots moving on my feet. I have worn these boots every work day for 15 months at least 10 hours per day. I have Super Feet green insoles in them. These boots are very comfortable. They fit like a glove after breaking them in. My only issue is that they have developed a hole in the flex area near the pinky toe of my right foot. I am not sure why. I had Red Wings that lasted three years before developing this kind of problem. I am not sure why this happened. This makes them virtually unusable during the winter because the hole is only 2" off the ground and I would have wet feet all day just from walking to my car. Danner offers a resoling service. I am not sure who could use that. Unless you are testing belt sanders with the outsole, the uppers will wear out much faster, even if you use the Danner leather conditioner every month like I did.

Out of the box, the style is awesome! The grey/oxide color is great. However, they will require a long break-in period. Very long. Wearing normal, cotton athletic socks, the toe-box feels slightly narrow. My biggest complaint about these Danners is the "non-removable" insole. The heel of the insole is made of leather; however, the foot pad section is a "tacky foam." Unfortunately, it makes getting the boot on and off difficult and feel snug. I normally swap out factory in-soles for SuperFeet, and was disappointed to see that can't be done with these Danners. They'll be going back.

Bought my regular size 7.5. These boots fit right out of the box. Wore them around the house with wool blend hiking socks. Should get even more comfortable as the leather molds more with wearing. I also wear Lowa hiking boots but those appear a bit lighter.

I guess you can call these Chukka boots? Somewhat. These are my third pair of Danner boots I've had, and they do not disappoint. Every Danner I've owned has been crafted in the USA, so I have no knowledge of the China made Danner's. You get what you pay for. These things are beautiful and well worth the money. The laces are a big upgrade to what they put on the Forest Heights I. The picture here on Zappos is a better representation of the actual color of the boots, comparing to the Danner website. I slapped some Obenauf's LP on them to help with the break-in, which I don't think will be very long. If you're thinking of purchasing these like myself (I thought about it for a few months), just get them. You'll be happy you did. With proper care, these boots will last you ten years +.

I bought these for my husband to work in. He is a truck driver and works in all sorts of weather conditions. This is his second pair of Danner boots and he loves the comfort and look.

These are superb work boots in a hiking boot style. I am on concrete 10 hours a day in a facility manufacturing water treatment equipment and rarely do my feet hurt. I have tried all the major manufacturers of work boots and these simply can't be beat for durability and comfort. Not to mention that they are waterproof with the only material that is truly waterproof. I highly recommend them to anyone.

These are gorgeous boots. I absolutely loved the looks of them, but unfortunately sent them back because of the stiffness and lack of comfort. I ordered 2 different sizes hoping one of them would be perfect, and sadly neither one worked out for me. The leather around the ankle is very stiff. They rubbed blisters just walking around in my house with boots socks. There would be no way to tolerate them on a hike. They will require a lot of breaking in for anyone who decides to love them.

I'm a 9.5. I ordered the 9.5 and it comes EE width so they are wider and they were too big. I ordered a 9 to see which would fit better and the 9 worked. I would go a half size down.

I first tried these boots in my size, and they just didn't fit right (to big/sloppy width, and heel slipped up and down, among other things). I returned them to the amazing Zappos. Then I went down a half size, and they fit like a glove. I love that they are Made in the USA, and put together beautifully. Talk to me in 10+ years, I may still have these boots on my feet. Worth every hard-earned penny.
