My kids have left the nest and I wanted a smaller pan to cook for just one or two. My Choice in All-Clad goes back 15 years to when I bought a set of All-Clad Master Chef pots and pans. The 2 Qt Saute Pan is a nice complement to the set I have. My rationalization for buying from the D5 collection is to see the differences in the two and to see if an upgrade to my existing set is warranted. At first glance, I really like the drip edge. More than once I have poured from my MC pots and have it dribble down the side to be burned by the hotplate. The drip edge is a nice look as well. The lid sits nicely on the drip edge with a good seal. The handle is about the same as the old style with the addition of a little bump at the bottom side nearest the pan. There is a laser etching with the size of the pot. It's nice but in time and use I'm sure this will fade. Our first cooking experience is with a can of soup. Yes, not the best exercise of a good pan but something to do on my first test drive. The pan performed as expected. Heating was even and travels up the sides. Next I cooked coconut rice. It performed magically. The kernels of rice were all cooked to perfection. When I compare my MC set with this new D5 pan, I see that it is thicker and heavier. The difference between the two seems small but I do see a definite difference in how heat is conducted through the pan. My MC pans respond just a bit faster but the D5 takes the heat in slowly and maintains it more evenly. I like this new pan and glad I added it to my collection.

There's this thing about regular All-Clad cookware as opposed to non-stick: the more you use it the more you like it. Once you understand that with properly made cookware you don't need so called "non-stick" coatings, you are in on the secret. Which is that non-stick coatings are essentially a sales gimmick. All that aside, the All-Clad 9" French is an essential piece of cookware. It is versatile. Case in point: the skillet can be used to brown meats, after which you put on the lid, and you have a stovetop braiser. Also you can saute veggies in oil, then add liquids, put on the domed lid, and steam to doneness. Tip: always use Barkeeper's Friend when you need to clean the surface back to shiny-shiny. Bottom line, take 10 minutes to learn proper browning and saute techniques, and you can kiss non-stick good-bye!

Beautiful pot. Works great. Exactly what I would expect from All-Clad. I have only had it for a few weeks, but this pot is performing beautifully. I put it in the dishwasher (as I do with all my pots and pans), and it still looks great. I think it is wide and shallow for a stock pot, but my husband LOVES the shape and he is our primary cook.

This is a great pan at a great price. We got an induction range earlier this year and have been improving our pan collection. I thought 13 might be large so I passed on it at local stores. After using 10 and 12 inch pans for a couple of months, I found I wanted one this size. Am very pleased with its performance and the price. Shipping was very fast.

As if All-Clad's reputation wasn't good enough already, I was even more excited to buy these bowls after reading Zappos "About the Brand" which told me they were made in the good ol' U.S.A. "All-Clad Metalcrafters is the only bonded cookware manufacturer who utilizes American craftsmen and American-made metals to produce a complete line of beautifully finished bonded cookware products." Now VERY disappointed to find the "Made in China" label on the box upon receiving it this morning. How could you sell out?! I don't buy All-Clad because of its price point; I buy because they LAST. I would willingly pay more to support U.S. workers and keep these jobs here.

Hey, I'm a cook, so style points aren't a priority for me. But, if form follows function, and the result is a perfect tool, then yes, we have style liftoff! By the way, these rating categories seem to be better suited to shoes or clothing. For cookware, there is a need for a "Functionality" category or similar quantified rating. Enough of that. At this moment, I am soaking some dried black beans in the pan. Usually, I would soak them in hot water off the heat; with the All-Clad pan, I can ratchet the heat down low enough to create a soaking medium for the beans. Usually this takes 20-30 minutes depending on how old the bean. When the beans have absorbed enough water, I simply turn up the heat and begin the cooking phase. During cooking, I don't have to check the beans too often; just bring them to a boil and reduce the heat to simmer. With this equipment, cooking is achieved at a low flame point on the gas stove, which means there is no need to stir the beans more than once or twice tops, to prevent sticking. Getting technical a little: due to way the metals are layered in the pan, there is, with All-Clad, the advantage of heat being distributed evenly, not only on the bottom, but up the sides of the pan as well. This increases the cooking area of the pan, and allows for extremely even heating. Whaddaya want already?

Well, I haven't owned or used this product long enough to comment on it's long term durability, but so far this roasting rack is performing up to my best expectations. I don't think "comfort" is applicable here. So, 3 for comfort?

I love this slow cooker. You can remove the insert and brown your food in it and then just put it in the cooker. No more browning in one pan and then putting it in your slow cooker. Truly a one pot cooker.

This saucepan is a great investment. Why? A good example is the first thing I prepared in this pan, which was lemon curd. Basically a custard, lemon curd is unusually touchy because it can stick and burn unless made in a double boiler. With the All-Clad pan, the heat is evenly diffused across the cooking surface, so there is no need to shield the custard from scorching. Just keep the heat low! Also, a custard needs to be whisked constantly, and the scoop-bottom shape ensures that the whisk is contacting the entire cooking surface. The curd turned out perfectly, no scorching or sticking. That's all you can ask from a piece of cookware: ease of use and reliable results.

As a loyal All Clad customer, I wanted to purchase a fry basket that will work with my All Clad collection and as expected, the fry basket works well and is sturdily made and am very happy with my purchase. What is even better was the short time it took for the shipment to come in.

This is a beautiful piece on the counter in my home but it is not so hot to use. First the ceramic insert is heavy by itself but with food in it, it is too heavy to be handled safely. Full of hot food it is an accident waiting to happen. Also there is a problem when full with the heating. I doesn't get hot enough to cook. In short, looks great but buyer beware.

This pan had a manufacturing defect and it was domed and did not sit flat on the stove. All-Clad offered to do a "warranty evaluation" that would take 4-6 weeks. Here's where Zappos shines: All I had to do was call and Zappos' customer service handled it in 3 minutes. I will have a new pan tomorrow, no evaluation of the defective pan required. They are even sending it before they receive the defective pan back. If I could, I would order everything through Zappos. They've made an art out of putting the customer first.

Since it is not stated here on the Zappos website: These All-Clad pans are the "d5 Brushed" series of pans (though the exterior is not "brushed"). These pans work with any heating source, but are "Optimized for induction cooking" (according to the All-Clad website). Also from the All-Clad website: "Interior starburst finishing improves non-stick performance". In my humble opinion, the starburst pattern does not work. I was forced to use more fat to keep foods from sticking.

Slowly, piece by piece, I have been collecting my own collection of All Clad cookware. To this collection I have added a 3 qt. cassoulet with lid purchased through Zappos.com. I love this cassoulet. It is a perfect size for my use. It is so versatile that I can make soups, cook stews, in addition to casseroles. I find side handles extremely convenient, not only for cooking purposes but for transporting from stove to table for serving. The 3 qt. cassoulet lives up to the reputation of All Clad cookware. It is a handsomely crafted cookware. I highly recommend the cassoulet for multi-purpose home use. It may also serve as a nice addition to a bridal registry gift.
